Abstract

This study aims to analyze the inculcation of multicultural values in English textbooks at the junior high school level in Indonesia. In an increasingly diverse educational context, it is important for curriculum and learning materials to integrate multicultural values in order to form students who have awareness and tolerance of cultural differences. Through a qualitative approach, this study examines English textbooks used in several junior high schools, focusing on representations of cultural diversity, tolerance, inclusivity and equality. The content, images and narratives presented in the textbooks were analyzed. The results showed that despite efforts to integrate multicultural values, there was still a lack of in-depth presentation of local and global cultural diversity. This study recommends revising the learning materials to better reflect the multicultural reality in Indonesia and the world, as well as proposing more effective teaching strategies in instilling multicultural values to students.
