Author Guidelines

Journal of Mechanical Engineering (JOM) is published by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universitas Tidar, and was first issued in March 2017. This scientific journal accepts original manuscripts that have not been previously published or submitted elsewhere. JOM publishes articles covering topics in Energy Science and Engineering, Applied Mechanics and Materials, Design, Manufacturing and Product Development, and other related areas in mechanical engineering.

When submitting a manuscript, authors are required to follow the guidelines below.

Author Guidelines

1. Manuscripts must fall within the scope and focus of the journal.

2. Articles should be between 4,000 and 8,000 words or 7–12 pages, single-spaced, and must be accompanied by an abstract of 150–300 words describing the importance of the topic, objectives, methods, findings, and conclusions.

3. Three to five keywords should be provided below the abstract and written in 11-point font.

4. The journal applies a blind peer-review process. To support this, authors’ names (without academic titles), institutional affiliations, and the corresponding author’s email address must appear only on a separate cover page.

5. Manuscripts must be written in English, single-spaced, using Microsoft Word, Times New Roman, 12-point font, with margins of 3 cm (top and left) and 2.54 cm (bottom and right) on Letter-size paper.

6. A header should be inserted on even-numbered pages indicating the journal name, volume, number, month, year, and page number. On odd-numbered pages, include the author(s)’ names and a shortened version of the article title.

7. The main text should be formatted in two columns, except for tables and figures. Use a first-line indent of 1 cm, except for the first paragraph after the title and subheadings.

8. Block quotations should be indented 1 cm and written in 11-point font.

9. Research-based articles should follow this structure: Introduction (without heading), Method, Findings and Discussion, Conclusion, and References.

10. The introduction should include the background, research context, literature review, and research objectives, presented in paragraph form and comprising 15–20% of the total article length.

11. The method section should describe the research design, data sources, data collection, and data analysis, comprising 10–15% of the article length.

12. The findings and discussion section should present data analysis results addressing the research questions and interpret them using relevant theories and references. This section should comprise 40–60% of the total article length.

13. The conclusion should summarize and evaluate the main findings of the study.

14. Tables should use horizontal lines only, with the table number and title placed above the table.

15. At least 80% of references should be sources published within the last 10 years, primarily from journals, books, research reports, theses, and dissertations.

16. Citations should use the author–year format in parentheses. Direct quotations must include page numbers (e.g., p. 78 or pp. 78–89).

17. Quotations and references must follow the APA style, and the reference list must appear at the end of the article.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors must ensure that their submission complies with the following requirements. Submissions that do not adhere to these guidelines may be returned to the authors.

1. The manuscript has not been previously published and is not under consideration by another journal (unless explained in the Comments to the Editor).

2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format.

3. URLs for references have been provided where available.

4. The text is single-spaced, uses a 12-point font, applies italics instead of underlining (except for URLs), and places all figures and tables within the text at appropriate locations.

5. The manuscript follows the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

6. For peer-reviewed sections, the instructions for Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Copyright Notice

Copyright of accepted articles is transferred to the journal as the publisher. This includes the right to publish the article in various forms, including reprints. The journal retains publishing rights for all published articles.
