Abstract

3D printing is a rapid prototyping technology with additive manufacturing (AM) techniques which aims to create complex structures and geometries from 3D images. This study aims to determine the comparison of the mechanical properties of the tensile test on ABS filament material between not post-treatment and post treatment. Post treatment was carried out using a chemical type of nitrate (HNO3). The process parameters used in this study were nozzle temperature (240℃, 260℃), nitrate content (10%, 50%, 90%), and soaking time (2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours). Specimens were printed using the ASTM D638 type IV standard. The results of the tensile test of non-post-treated ABS filament material with post-treatment showed that the non-post-treated filament produced a greater tensile stress than the post-treated filament, this was because the chemical compound nitric acid could dissolve the ABS filament. The result of the highest non post treatment stress value is at a nozzle temperature of 240℃ which is 23.551 MPa. Nitrate content and immersion time can affect the tensile stress value. The highest post-treatment stress value was found at 22.363 MPa with nozzle temperature parameters of 240℃, 50% nitrate content, and 2 hours of immersion time. The highest strain value results at 0.035 mm with a nozzle temperature of 240℃, 10% nitrate content and 2 hours of soaking time and the highest elastic modulus value at 888 MPa with a nozzle temperature of 260℃, 90% nitrate content and 6 hours of soaking time.
