Abstract

Plastic waste is a serious environmental problem in Indonesia where in 2022 it will produce 37.37 million tons of waste and around 18.05% is plastic waste. This study was conducted to recycle HDPE and PET plastic into alternative fuels using the pyrolysis method by adding bentonite clay without a catalyst and with variations of adding 50 g, 100 g and 150 g. The methods used are thermal cracking and catalytic cracking at a temperature of 350°C for 120 minutes. After the product is produced, its density, viscosity and calorific value will be tested. The density values are 750 kg/m3, 781 kg/m3, 787 kg/m3 and 790 kg/m3 respectively. The viscosity values are 2.09 cSt, 2.349 cSt, 2.859 cSt and 2.93 cSt respectively. The calorific values were 10,194.7 cal/g, 10,732.9 cal/g, 11,315.7 cal/g and 11,556.7 cal/g respectively. These results prove that the catalyst can affect the pyrolysis results and the addition of 150 g of catalyst obtained the highest results
